Zamboanga: City eyes opening of Abong Abong for Holy Week

The city government is now eying the opening of Abong Abong for the holy week on Good Friday April 15 after it was closed last 2020.

Atty. Kenneth Vincent Beldua said during a virtual press conference that “Base on the information we obtained from the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office they are now studying the possibility that the celebration in the premises of Abong Abong in relation to the holy week will be open to the public.”

However, they have to study the capacity of the area so that minimum public health standards can still be followed especially physical distancing.

Aside from this, the city is now under alert level 1 the lowest alert level for Coronavirus Disease 2019.

Recall, Abong Abong was closed 2020 due to the pandemic Covid-19 which is in the country for more than years now.

Before the pandemic, thousands of devotees go to the said area to do penance and way of the cross.
