Camp Col Rafael C Rodriguez, Butuan City – Police Regional Office (PRO) 13 remembered the heroism of the 44 SAF members in a simple ceremony held here last Tuesday, January 25.
Police Brigadier General RONALDO E OLAY, Acting Director for Logistics graced the occasion as the guest of honor and speaker.
The activity started with a mass around 7:00AM followed by wreath laying ceremony at the PRO13 Law Enforcement Memorial and the commemoration program.
PBGEN OLAY convey the message of the Chief PNP Police General DIONARDO B CARLOS quoting that this commemoration is the day where we ought to reflect for their unselfish deeds for our country which symbolizes the heart of a true warrior and that the country owed their families a debt of gratitude that cannot be repaid.
The 44 SAF troopers were killed in a botched counterterrorism operation in Mamasapano, Maguindanao seven years ago.
“Through the celebration of the National Day of Remembrance, the Filipino people particularly in Caraga region will be able to continue to honor the lives and heroism of the 44 members of the police force which made the supreme sacrifice in order to fulfill their duty “To Serve and Protect”,” says PRO13 Regional Director PBGEN ROMEO M CARAMAT, JR.
He also said the exceptional brand of gallantry and love of country that these policemen shown in Mamasapano should be engraved in the minds of Filipinos not only today but also in the future.
The National Day of Remembrance shall be observed as a working holiday to let the country to commemorate the heroism shown by the fallen members of the police force.
Under the measure, all public institutions and military installations are mandated to lower the Philippine flags to half-mast every National Day of Remembrance.
