Surigao: Almost P132M worth of damages to PNP Infrastructures and other equipment caused by Odette

Camp Col Rafael C Rodriguez, Butuan City – After more than one month since the menacing destructive power brought by Supertyphoon “Odette” leaves the province of Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands almost in ruins, the law enforcers of Caraga were not spared of the onslaught, with cost amounting to 132 million pesos in damages to police stations infrastructures and other equipment.

Police Regional Office (PRO) 13 Regional Director, POLICE BRIGADIER GENERAL ROMEO M CARAMAT JR, disclosed that estimated 130 million pesos worth of damages to different police stations and mobile forces in Caraga, including all under the Surigao del Norte (SDN) and Dinagat Islands Police Provincial Offices (DIPPO) that were heavily affected, were accounted by the Regional Logistics and Research and Development Division (RLRDD) 13.

The modern structures of the police stations and offices of SDNPPO and DIPPO proved no match to the vicious winds of Odette as roofs were blown away and glass windows were smashed and electrical post were uprooted, leaving all police stations with no electricity.

A separate cost of ₱ 1, 265,000.00 is listed to vehicles damaged by the storm including patrol cars and troop carriers essential for faster and quick response to possible public disturbance and accidents while another ₱ 315, 000.00 is accounted for communication equipment including base radio and computer sets, which is significant in delivering information and situational report, were soaked wet by the storm.

“Typhoon Odette is the most powerful storm to hit the region of Caraga in modern times and the cost of damages is unprecedented. Yet, despite its destructive nature, no PNP members were lost and we continued our sworn duty to serve and protect during and after the storm” RD CARAMAT JR stated.
