Zamboanga: Mayor Lauds Security Forces For Aggressive Anti-Smuggling Campaign

Mayor Beng Climaco lauded police authorities and other concerned agencies for their relentless efforts in safeguarding the city against smuggling activities.

This, as police and military authorities intercepted 2 motorized boats locally known as jungkong loaded with ₱ 4. 375 million worth of alleged smuggled cigarettes off the waters of Sts. Cruz Island, Thursday November 11.

A report submitted to the mayor indicates that personnel from the 2nd ZC Mobile Force Company “Seaborne” together with their counterparts from the Bureau of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) and Enforcement and Security Service (ESS)were conducting seaborne patrol when they chanced upon the 2 watercrafts with cigarettes on board. The crew members of both watercrafts failed to present pertinent documents.

One junkong was transporting 80 cases of assorted cigarettes with 4 crew members while the other unit was ferrying 45 cases of cigarettes which 4 crew members. Both water crafts were bound for barangay Sinunuc from Maluso, Basilan.

The operatives together with PDEA agents conducted visual inspection and paneling on the seized items for possible presence of drugs.

Mayor Climaco said the security sector is exerting efforts to sustain anti-crime and anti-terrorism campaigns to keep the city and its people safe and protected.

She assured that the city government will continue its support and assistance to the security sector so that the maximum results are obtained.
