Deadline for the payment of business tax, without penalty, has been extended until January 31, 2022, pursuant to an ordinance approved by the City Council during its special session today.
However, the 10% discount for whole year payment will only be until January 20, 2022, the original deadline set for business tax under the law.
With the extension of the deadline, operation of the Business One-Stop Shop (BOSS) at Centro Latino in Paseo del Mar, will also be extended until the end of the month.
The City Council during its special session today approved Ordinance 2022-105 entitled “An Ordinance Extending the Deadline for the First Quarter Payment of City Licenses and Taxes from January 20, 2022 to January 31, 2022 and For Other Related Purposes,” per request of the Chief Executive.
The Licensing Division Office under Benjie Barredo expects to receive over 12,000 applications for business permit renewal and new registration for 2022. As of January 16, the BOSS has issued 2,745 permits out of the total 8,848 applications received. Of the total number of applications, 8,607 have been assessed and 3,753 were with payments.
The BOSS opens at 8am to 8pm Mondays to Fridays and from 8am to 5pm on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
Late payment of the business tax is automatically penalized with a 25% surcharge on the base taxes, fees or charges, while an additional 2% monthly interest will be charged on the basic amount and the 25% surcharge. (Sheila Covarrubias)
