The Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) is now on its final stage on their plan to open its School of Medicine to better serve Zamboanga Peninsula especially those who wanted to take up medicine.
Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, WMSU President told RPN DXXX, they are now on the final stage of preparation for the medical school.
They are waiting for the visit of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Technical Working Group for final evaluation and the qualified doctor from Manila to be the dean.
Ochotorena said, equipments for the school to include buildings are already prepared.
Aside from these, they already hired ten doctors with different specializations.
“The opening of another medical school in Zamboanga City especially for WMSU, will be another landmark for Zamboanga City,” the University President said.
This will give chance for indigent students to study medicine as the program will be offered by a state university.
At present, the city only have one school offering medicine the Ateneo de Zamboanga University School of Medicine. (R.G. Antonet A. Go)
