Dr. Aimee Capinpuyan from Gigaquit Rural Health Unit said they are in constant monitoring of the patient and he is only a suspect.
“We are confirming the news of 1 Covid suspect in Gigaquit. We also would like to repeat that we still have 0 confirmed cases.
He is a 74-year old male with known medical conditions (hypertension, diabetes, COPD). He has been staying inside his home for more than a month now, with no travel history outside Gigaquit. He has no contact with known PUMs, PUIs, or confirmed cases. Two days ago, he developed a mild fever and cough.
✴️ Why is he classified as a suspect?
Because according to the latest DOH algorithm, anyone above 60 years old, or with chronic health conditions, who has a fever or cough is automatically considered a Covid suspect.
✴️ What actions did we take?
When we identified the patient two days ago, our Rural Health Unit immediately started him on antibiotics and refilled his other maintenance meds. We also gave him a thermometer for self-monitoring.
✴️ How is he now?
We are happy to report that he has been comfortable for the past 2 days. His fever is also gone, and he has not had any trouble breathing. Our RHU team is checking on him every day. So far he has been in good shape.

We ask everyone to remain calm. Do not panic. Instead of speculating or sharing unverified information, please share some positive thoughts. This is a stressful time for our patient and his family.
