Bacolod City – As the country braces for the possible entry of Omicron COVID-19 variant, which is said to be more infectious than the Delta variant that caused the surge in infections this year, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson appears not to be inclined to lower the Alert Level 2 of Negros Occidental to Alert Level 1.

“I feel that such variant will visit the country,” Lacson said, as he observed that all COVID-19 variants managed to enter the country.

We have to be very careful, especially with people coming into the province, he said, stressing that COVID-19 is still around, with the virus “dominating us.”

Lacson said he still prefers that Negros Occidental will remain under Alert Level 2

Under Alert Level 2, Lacson said he noticed many people and kids going out of their homes. “I think we will have a merrier Christmas this year,” he added.

I’d like to think that Alert Level 2 is just right, Lacson further said.

If Negros Occidental is place under Alert Level 1, he said that you will be allowing more people in an enclosed place.

The provincial government of Negros Occidental is also opening the Mambukal Mountain Resort in Murcia for fully vaccinated tourists, with free entrance, effective today December 1.

This comes after the two remaining COVID-19 patients at the resort will be released today, Provincial Inter Agency Task Force action officer Rayfrando Diaz said.

It will only be day time trip, in the meantime, while overnight stay is not yet allowed, Diaz said, as he advised guests to make a reservation first at the Mambukal office in Brgy. Minoyan, Murcia.

But he said that the provincial government will make some adjustments on the second or third week of December, depending on the outcome of the soft opening today. (Gilbert Bayoran via The Visayan Daily Star, photo courtesy of Bacolod City Public Information Office)
