Acting Bacolod Election Officer Revo Sorbito said that if these are not removed, they will be taking legal action against those responsible for violation of the Fair Election Act and Comelec Resolution 10732.

Sorbito said they have started removing illegally posted campaign materials of national and local candidates at the launch of Operation Baklas Friday. These materials will be kept at the Comelec Office for inventory and will be later used as evidence if cases will be filed.

They will continue their operation against illegally posted campaign materials every Friday particularly those posted on trees and electrical posts until the end of the campaign period. The campaign for local candidates will start on March 25, he said.

Assisting the Comelec are personnel from the Philippine National Police, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Public Works and Highways, and the Bacolod City Engineer’s Office.

Sorbito appealed to the candidates and their supporters to abide by the Comelec rules and guidelines and help them ensure the conduct of a peaceful election. (Chrysee Semillano via The Visayan Daily Star (TVDS), photo courtesy of TVDS)
