The fountain of the Bacolod City Government Center turns into a colorful, virtual lotus pond, and is made even more picturesque with Chinese lanterns hung on poles, as the city prepares for the 14th Bacolaodiat Festival, Bacolod’s celebration of the Chinese New Year, slated Feb. 1 to 4, with the Government Center as its main festival site.

The lotus is one of the most significant flowers in the Chinese culture. Because the flower rises from the mud and blooms in exquisite beauty, it symbolizes perfection and purity of both the heart and mind –which the Bacolaodiat Festival hopes to impart to Bacolodnons for a renewed spirit this year.

The lotus flower also represents long life and honor, and is depicted in Chinese art, poetry and architecture. (City PIO via NDB)
