The Philippine Pediatric Society Southwestern Mindanao (PPS-SWM) Chapter will be supporting the Department of Health (DOH) Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) National Vaccination Day scheduled on November 29, 30, and December 1.
The Department of Health (DOH) regional office 9 is targeting to vaccinate 691,014 individuals in region 9 during the three days National Vaccination Day.
Bayanihan Bakunahan is a nationwide campaign which targets to attain 5 million jabs a day and 15 million vaccinated for three days.
This will be done with the help of the volunteers and stakeholders. Volunteers like health screeners, vaccinators, post vaccination monitors, registration personnel, encoder, data consolidator, and health educators.
Earlier, the group also assisted during the launching of pediatric vaccination at Zamboanga Chong Hua High School, Zamboanga Peninsula Medical Center (ZPMC) and other vaccination sites last November 8 & 9.
This is in support to the government’s call to vaccinate 12-17 year old eligibles against Covid-19 and was spearheaded by its chapter president Dr. Wilhelmina Hocson, VP Dr. Leilyn Lopez, Secretary & Socials Com Chair Dr. Jane Quibilan, ZPMC ER head & Asst. Treasurer Dr. Ma. Teresa Monzon, Disaster Preparedness Com Chair & Auditor Dr. Mary Ann To, Pediatric Cardiologist Dr. Lottie
Uy, Dr. Kae Araojo of Department of Education and Pediatric Endocrinologist Dr. Mirasol Ellong, Past presidents Dr. Rosemarie Arciaga and Dr. Bernadette Santiago and its other members in the government hospitals and health units.
The group is urging especially the parents and guardians to have their children vaccinated against Covid-19.
Dr. Wilhelmina Hocson, PPS-SWM President, stressed “We want not only to protect the children but also the siblings na hindi pa pwedeng bakunahan. We are protecting the household.”
Aside from this, if children are vaccinated eventually soon, they can go back to face to face learning and their other activities.
Again she assured that vaccines are safe and passed studies especially what is being used for children are that of Moderna and Pfizer.
PPS-SWM is a group of pediatricians in the region under the umbrella of their national Pediatric Society. Pediatricians are specialists who look after the health of children.
