Mayor Beng Climaco has urged residents to continue protective health practices versus COVID-19 in a whole-of-city approach, even as the city braces for the omicron and other variants of concern.
“We have really asked the people to always maintain the minimum health protocols…with our security forces to remind our children, our families on maintaining the family bubble,” said Mayor Beng Climaco during a briefing interview with Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Asec. JV Arcena Monday morning, January 3.
Mayor Beng said the city will continue to strengthen its local COVID-19 response across a whole-of-family, whole-of-city, and whole-of-government approach.
“ZC is really the center na dinadayo talaga ng ating mga kapitbahay mula sa BASULTA, at ang pangangailangan natin ay paigtingan ang mga minimum health protocols, and it has to go down to our barangay health emergency response teams, including our barangay information officers,” said Mayor Beng.
As of January 1, Zamboanga City has 90 active cases. It remains under Alert Level 2 until January 15.
Vaccination is also ongoing, with the city hitting the 70% mark for fully vaccinated individuals. As of December 31, 2021, a total of 1,091, 456 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in Zamboanga City.
This brings the city’s vaccination status to 87% partially vaccinated, as 602,388 of the total 694,696 target population have received their first dose and 70% fully vaccinated, with 489,068 of the target population having received their second jab.
Meanwhile, Mayor Beng has requested the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to extend the term of contact tracers.
“Ang laki laki ng tulong ng ating mga contact tracers to help the city government. And that goes for all other LGUs as well,” said Mayor Beng.
