The Department of Health (DOH) regional office 9 is targeting to finish the pediatric vaccination in region 9 by December this year.
Dr. Joshua Brilliantes, regional director, said they are planning to vaccinate 400,000 children aged 12 to 17 years old using the Covid vaccine of Pfizer and Moderna.
This is in preparation for the school children to go back to face to face learning in their respective schools.
He said if the local government will open additional vaccination sites and will have additional manpower, this can be finished by December 15.
The vaccination of children officially started Monday together with Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco Salazar, DOH 9 Regional Director Dr. Joshua Brillantes, and City Health Officer Dr Dulce Miravite at Zamboanga Chong Hua High School.
The vaccination sites includes KCC Mall de Zamboanga, Zamboanga City Medical Center, Zamboanga Peninsula Medical Center, Zamboanga Chong Hua High School and SM City Mindpro.
Parents and guardians are urged to register their children and submit themselves for vaccination to have added protection against Covid-19.
Recall that the city kicked off Pediatric A3 vaccination with six hospital-based children at the ZCMC last October 29.
