Davao City –  Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte on Friday dismissed claims that Davao City’s “Stay Home, Save Money” campaign is anti-poor, saying it is intended for every Dabawenyo.

The reaction came after some netizens expressed their opposition to the campaign that discouraged people from going out of their homes for unnecessary activities — such as parties.

During her interview over the Davao City Disaster Radio on Friday, the mayor said that the ‘Stay home’ campaign is for everyone, especially that the city is under General Community Quarantine (GCQ).

“That is not particularly directed at the poor sector of our society. It is directed at everyone. Rich and poor are really affected by the community quarantine classifications,” she said.

The mayor emphasized that the ‘Stay home’ campaign is directed to discouraging Dabawenyos from doing non-essential travels to avoid unnecessary exposure. This means that people are still allowed to go out to do essential things, such as accessing goods and services and doing work and business.

In her Christmas message, the mayor has asked for the cooperation of the Dabawenyo in the fight against the global pandemic.

“Magtinabangay kita sa pagbatok sa pagkuyanap sa bayrus. Ug sa atong pagtinabangay – mapakita nato ang atong kusog. Pinaagi niini, dili kita mapukan (Let us help one another against the spread of the virus. As we help one another, we can show that we are strong. With this, we will not break),” Mayor Sara said.

Amid this challenging time, Mayor Sara Duterte wished Dabawenyos a meaningful holiday season but reminded people to stay home to save money and avoid parties and gatherings. (City Information Office)
