PARTY-LIST and political parties which will be participating in the 2022 elections may register online, despite the lockdown in the National Capital Region (NCR) and its surrounding areas, according to the Commission on Elections.
On Sunday. the poll body said it will continue to accept via e-mail — even during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in NCR — documents from party-list groups and political parties, including their petition for registration and manifestation of intent to participate.
“The election body will continue receiving, via e-mail, petitions, verified pleadings, memoranda, comments, briefs, and other submissions, in PDF format,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in a statement.
“E-mails sent to the address [email protected] and received by the 5 pm deadline, will be considered filed on time,” he added.
However, the applicants must still send hard copies of their documents and pay the necessary fees for processing.
The payment could be made through manager’s cheques, cashier’s cheques, or postal money orders.
“After filing through e-mail, the filing party shall send, through the fastest means available, including registered mail or any courier service, hard copies of all petitions, pleadings, and other submissions, with complete annexes in four hard copies, together with proof of payment of the required fees, deposits, and fines, if any,” Jimenez said.
The deadline for the submissions from party-list and political parties is on March 31, 2021.
Jimenez said they expect an influx in applications before the end of the deadline.
Comelec will conduct a hearing and issue due notice to the concerned applicants 15 days from the day they submit the necessary documents.
As of Sunday, Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said her division had already dismissed five party-lists petitions.
