THE Philippine National Police will put up quarantine control points (QCPs) beginning Monday in areas covered by the re-implemented enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) where  longer curfew hours will also be observed.

During an online press briefing on Sunday afternoon, Lt. Gen. Cesar Hawthorne Binag, commander of the PNP Joint Task Force Covid Shield, said at least 1, 106 QCPs would be set up and operated starting midnight on Sunday in order to restrict the movement of people and ensure they stay inside their homes.

The QCPs, manned by more than 9, 000 policemen, would be operationalized in the National Capital Region and in the provinces of Laguna, Cavite, Rizal and Bulacan, which have been put under ECQ following the unprecedented and continuing spike in the number of Covid-19 cases.

Binag said the checkpoints, taken as part of the national government’s effort to contain the spread of the virus, will complement the curfew from 6 p.m. up to 5 a.m., also in the areas under ECQ.

Binag said that of the QCPs, at least 929 checkpoints would be put up within Metro Manila while the rest would be scattered in other areas covered by the ECQ. Policemen mobilized for the mission were deployed Sunday night.
