The leaders of the three major public markets here aired their support for the COVID-19 surveillance testing proposed by the city government on October 10, 2010 but they appealed for support for their families.
The leaders of the Burgos, Central and Libertad Markets, Manokan Country and Bacolod City Flower Vendors Association, signed a manifesto of acceptance and support to the surveillance testing as part of the city government effort in its fight against the coronavirus disease 2019.
They acknowledged that it will be for their own good, for their families and the market-goers in Bacolod.
But the leaders appealed to the city government to ensure that they and their families will be provided assistance and immediate attention as a consequence of the surveillance testing.
They also called on their fellow vendors for their cooperation and support by doing their part in defeating the “unseen but deadly enemy.”
Earlier, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, head of the local Inter-Agency Task Force against COVID-19, conducted consultation with the vendors of the Burgos and Libertad markets.
Some of the vendors at the Burgos and Libertad markets held a noise barrage to protest the surveillance testing.
Familiaran said the vendors wanted to clarify issues surrounding the surveillance testing.
He also said the issues like whether it is free or not has already been clarified.
