Davao City continues to extend a helping hand to other local government units hit by natural calamities, similar to what it did in the past.
This time, Davao City is helping the typhoon-stricken areas of Northern Samar and Eastern Samar with a financial aid of P700,000 after the City Council, in its regular session on Tuesday, granted authority to Mayor Inday Sara Duterte to use part of the city’s Quick Response Fund (QRF).
Typhoon Ambo had recently battered several towns in Northern and Eastern Samar.
The Quick Response Fund (QRF) is 30 percent of the 2020 Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (DRRMF) or calamity fund, which is five percent of the annual budget.
Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, the Chairman of the City Council Committee on Finance, Ways and Means, said the city is always ready to extend a helping hand to other areas in need, especially now that the country is facing challenges because of the Covid-19.
“They are facing double challenges – Covid-19 and the typhoon. Now, as far as the city is concerned, we are still stable. It would be great if we can help other people,” Dayanghirang said.
The city government is giving P100,000 each to the Province of Northern Samar and the Municipalities of Arteche, Maslog, Dolores, Oras, Jipadpad, and San Policarpio in Eastern Samar.
These areas were declared under State of Calamity due to damages caused by Typhoon Ambo. The financial assistance will be sent as soon as possible to the affected areas through bank transfers. CIO
