With the approaching National and Local Elections, Regional Director of Police Regional Office Cordillera PBGen. Ronald O Lee orders additional checkpoints in strategic areas of the region.
“Magdadagdag kami ng checkpoints sa strategic area, mobile po iyan at hindi po permanent” PBGen. Lee said during a media forum.
At present 105 fixed COMELEC checkpoints were being operated in the Cordillera Region with 29 checkpoints in Abra, 16 in Kalinga, 15 in Benguet, 12 in Baguio city, and 11 each in Apayao and Mountain Province.
The additional checkpoints and police presence can help a lot in crime deterrence in the region.
Based on the records of the Regional Operations Management Division (ROMD), since the start of the election period last January 9, four individuals were already apprehended in violation of the COMELEC gun ban, two in Abra, one each in Benguet and Kalinga.
One shooting incident between the police officers and an armed criminal was recorded in Abra.
