Bacolod City – The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is urging the Commission on Elections to provide a separate venue for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) including persons suffering from comorbidities on the May 9 elections.
The resolution authored by Councilor Renecito Novero was unanimously approved recently by the SP during its first regular session for the year.
The Covid-19 virus and its variants continue to plague the globe reaching the Philippines and Bacolod City in such unpredictable proportion, the resolution said.
It is generally considered that senior citizens and those suffering from certain comorbidities are of weaker immune system and resistance against the virulence of this virus and its variants, it said.
There will most likely be thousands of electors who will flock to the polling places on election day, May 9 and that will most possibly protract the casting of ballots and lengthen the waiting time of the voters, the resolution said.
Such overcrowding situation can be unhealthful and risky to the senior citizens and persons suffering from comorbidities amid this global Covid-19 pandemic, as well as agonizing and unfriendly to the persons with disabilities, it added.
