City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite is expecting another Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) surge in Zamboanga City as Covid 19 cases in National Capital Region (NCR) starts to spike.
“Ta mira quita, ta subi el caso de Covid 19 na NCR. We are expecting its just a matter of time na pwede kita experiencia el surge.” Miravite said.
The surge in NCR was brought about by the spread of the Covid 19 Omicron Variant.
Because of this the city is implementing strict boarder control, intensify the vaccination efforts, and advising the public to follow the minimum public health standards.
Aside from these, the office is also preparing the needed medicines and the isolation facilities in case the surge happens.
Recall, October 2021, the city experienced Covid 19 surge due to the Covid 19 Delta Variant. During that time, hospital utilization rate went up and the city experienced lack of medical oxygen supply.
The city has 22,603 total Covid 19 cases. 84 are active cases, 21,416 recovered and 1,103 deaths.
For the Covid 19 vaccination a total of 1,091,456 were vaccinated. 602,388 got their first dose 87% while 489,068 or 70% received their second dose.
