The Office of the City Civil Registrar led by Atty Eric Elias in collaboration with other agencies spearheads activities in celebration of the 32nd Civil Registration Month this February.
Themed “Improving Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Implementation Strategies through Digital Transformation, ” the activity was highlighted by the Birth Registration for residents in Kasanyangan and the neighboring barangays February 16.
The activity, held at the barangay Kasanyangan Multipurpose Hall, was undertaken in collaboration with UNHCR, UNICEF, CFSI, NCIP, and CSWDO.
Local chieftains of IP groups, community leaders, youth advocates, and community representatives from the Barangays of Kasanyangan and Rio Hondo were in attendance.
Part of the activity was a session on birth registration and child’s rights to nationality, birth registration and statelessness, the process at the CCRO, and the importance of having birth registration certificates.
A youth group at the community level shall be organized to advocate birth registration at the community level.
The City Government expresses gratitude to all supporting agencies especially the Community Family Services, Inc. (CFSI) and UNHCR – 2 NGO partners.
Since 2013, CFSI was able to assist 3,679 Sama Bajau individuals in acquiring birth registration at the CCRO level while 2,719 were also provided with SecPa (PSA) copies. All these were made possible through strong partnership with the Local Government of Zamboanga City particularly the City Civil Registrar Office and City Social Welfare and Development Office.
