Zamboanga City Loss 0.8 Billion In Tourism This Pandemic

The city tourism office has recorded a total of P897,553,784.00 loses when it comes to the tourism industry of Zamboanga City due to the community quarantine being implemented nationwide brought about by the Coronavirus Disease 2019.

Sarita Sebastian, city tourism officer told RPN DXXX, these loses were registered for the month of March, April, till mid May.

Affected industries were transport services, ticketing agencies, travel and tours, accommodation facilities, food and beverages, recreational activities, and health and wellness.

During that time, the city was under Enhanced Community Quarantine which started March 20, 2020.

The city’s banner tourism destination, Sta Cruz Island was also affected to include the 11 island the city is currently developing.

Other tourism sites in this city includes: Fort Pilar, Merloquet Falls, Pasonanca tree house, Pasonanca Park, national museum, Paseo del Mar, Yakan Weaving Village, barter,  and others.

For the opening of these islands, Sebastian said, further announcement will be given by the local government so that health and safety protocols can be implemented.
