Davao del Norte –  The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Davao del Norte field office has viewed as protection for working children from COVID-19 infection, moves to equip municipal and barangay frontliners with protective gears.

DOLE Davao del Norte on Wednesday (Aug 05) took part in turning over facemasks, face-shields and alcohol to the municipal government of Braulio E. Dujali this province for distribution to  members of  the Municipal COVID-19 task force and barangay frontliners.

Among those identified to receive these donations from Child Fund through its BuildCA2P Project, were  the police, the Municipal Social Welfare Office, the Municipal  Health Office, among other municipal government offices involved in manning  COVID-19 checkpoints and deployed for COVID-19 concerns.

Target recipients in two project sites of barangay Dujali and Cabay-angan in Braulio E. Dujali were barangay tanods, barangay health workers and purok leaders.

“Ang hinabang sa Child Fund dako kaayo nga assistance sa atong mga parents;  we identified this last year in a profiling  sa LGU, and then karong tuiga nakig-alayon mi sa Child Fund kay naa silay mga ihatag ng mga assistance sa mga parents sa child laborers.,” said Angelina Talinting, provincial officer of DOLE Davao del  Norte Field Office.

This Child Fund  donations were intended for 100 municipal level COVID-19 frontliners and 65 of the same to each of the two target barangays.  The same COVID-19 protective gears and alcohol were also turned over to the Municipal Government of Carmen on Aug. 05.

DOLE Davao del Norte revealed that Child Fund along with Kaugmaon Foundation had identified only  the municipalities of Braulio E. Dujali and Carmen of Davao del Norte as beneficiaries of the mentioned donations to spare frontliners in its project sites from contracting COVID-19.

Alvin Dumduma, Child Fund Buildcap project coordinator explained that the distribution of personal protective gears  and alcohol was just part of the roll-out  of  the project dubbed as “Building Capacity, Awareness, Advocacy and Programs of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Mindanao, Philippines to combat Child Labor in Crop Agriculture (Banana, Corn, Coconut & Rice) or BuildCA2P”.

“This aims to enhance the capacity of CSOs to address child labor and promote acceptable conditions of work in the provinces of Davao del Norte, Bukidnon and North Cotabato,” Child Fund said in a released statement.

In an interview, Dumduma  pointed out the need to provide front-liners against COVID-19 with gears and alcohol  to consequently spare working children from  contracting the disease.

“We just want to ensure that children, especially the vulnerable engaged in farming and agriculture  are well protected specially during the COVID situation,” he said. “Alam naman po natin na ang mag ensure ng kanilang protection  ay ang  ating mga frontliners mga barangay health workers, ating mga  namumuno sa municipal levels,” he added.  (Jeanevive Duron Abangan)
