Pagadian: Inauguration of community firing range, a success

Zamboanga del Sur – The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) inaugurated the Matapat Community Firing Range yesterday, December 1, in a simple inauguration and riboon-cutting ceremony graced by the Army’s 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division Commander Maj. Gen. Gene Ponio at 53IB Headquarters in Poblacion, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.

The Matapat Community Firing Range is built as a site for honing marksmanship and proficiency skills in shooting inspired by the noble objective toward the continued partnership and enduring commitment for peace and development in Zamboanga del Sur.

In his welcome remarks, 53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera thanked Maj. Gen. Gene Ponio for gracing the momentous event, and expressed his gratitude to 53IB’s partner stakeholders.

“This Matapat Community Firing Range is built through the support and trust of 53IB’s valued partner stakeholders, to whom we will forever be grateful,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.

Maj. Gen. Ponio commended 53IB for its fruitful partnership and convergence with its partner stakeholders, saying that it is vital to keeping the province safe from various forms of threats.

This activity is part of the 53IB’s drive to strategically communicate the Army’s transformation to become world class that is a source of national pride by 2028 in line with the Army Transformation Roadmap (ATR).
