Zamboanga del Sur – A buried food supply for the communist NPA terrorists (CNTs) was recently unearthed by the community and the troops of the Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) at Purok 4, Sitio Lanayan, Barangay Gasa, Lakewood upon the revelation of recently-surrendered former commander of the defunct Guerilla Front KARA, alias Marlon.
The food cache contained four (4) gallons worth of rice and assorted food supplies.
It can also be remembered that recently, alias Marlon together with a certain Reno Andang surrendered two (2) high-powered firearms which were buried at Barangay Dumalian, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur.
In a statement, 53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera said the discovery of said food cache will further force the remaining members of the communist terrorist groups in the hinterlands to surrender.
“Hunger will compel the remnants of communist terrorist groups to abandon their fight and eventually return to the folds of law,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.
In April 2021, the Province of Zamboanga del Sur was declared as an “insurgency-free and development-ready” province by virtue of Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 1357-2021.
