Some forty-two (42) newly appointed employees attended the face-to-face “Orientation for New Employees (ONE-14th and 15th Cycles)” as part of the employees’ onboarding process in the workplace by virtue of Special Order No. 2024-039 dated January 24, 2024 on February 7, 2024, at DENR Regional Office V, Hamada Hall, Rawis, Legazpi City.

The two-day event aims to provide a full understanding and appreciation of their duties and responsibilities as government employees. Benefits, privileges, and rights of the employees, as well as the history, mandates, policies, rules, and regulations of the agency were also discussed.

The event was attended by DENR Bicol Regional Executive Director (RED) Francisco E. Milla, Jr., CESO III, Assistant Regional Director for Management Services (ARD-MS) Ronnel B. Astor, Administrative Division Chief Dolores C. Vargas, Supervising Administrative Officer Honorina N. Loria, Ph.D., and Personnel Section Chief Ma. Emily L. Bonete. Additionally, employees from various offices, such as the Regional Office, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Offices (PENROs) in Albay, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, and Camarines Norte, as well as Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (CENROs) in Guinobatan, Goa, Iriga, Sipocot, Masbate, and San Jacinto, were present. Representatives from different government agencies, including Home Mutual Development Fund (HMDF), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), and Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Legazpi, were also in attendance.

In his message, ARD-MS Astor implored the participants to always have a solution to a problem because this will boost their morale in the workplace. “Whenever I encounter problems, I always consider it a situation where I always have a solution. We should always have a solution to every problem because this will boost our morale, so let us make that our practice in the workplace,” he said. “We should look for our own career path and not waste any opportunity that comes our way,” he added.

Furthermore, RED Milla emphasized that the employment of the participants marks the beginning of their role as protectors of our environment, ensuring its preservation for future generations. “Let us not forget our mandate. As DENR employees, let us always remember that the mission of our agency is to mobilize the citizenry to protect, conserve, and manage our environment and natural resources for the present and future generations,” he said. “Always keep that in mind. We work not just for today but more so for the benefit of future generations. Your appointment or promotion is just the beginning of your journey as stewards and vanguards of our environment. Seize this opportunity and hold onto it with dedication, passion, professionalism, and perseverance,” he added.

The orientation ended with a commitment from the participants to apply all the learnings they gained.
