President Rodrigo R Duterte has declared Thursday, May 13 as a regular holiday for the observance of Eid’l Fitr or the culmination of the Fasting of Ramadan.

Duterte made the declaration through his proclamation No. 1142, which was issued last Monday, upon the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.

“By virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Thursday, 13, May 2021, a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of the Eid’l Fitr,” Duterte said.

Eid’l Fitr is an important celebration for Muslims worldwide since it marks the end of month-long Ramadan.

Duterte said he hopes the regular holiday will give Filipinos the “opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr.”

However, he noted that the celebration should still be subject to community quarantine, social distancing, and other public health measures.
