The government has tightened the community quarantine status of provinces of Apayao and Benguet in Cordillera for the next two weeks beginning today in a bid to control the spread of the COVID-19.

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases chaired by DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III and co-chaired by Secretary Karlo Alexei Nograles issued resolution no. 114-C placing two provinces in Cordillera under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) from May 10 to 23, 2021.

Governor Melchor Diclas will convene the Provincial IATF for an emergency meeting tomorrow morning for the localized guidelines and for other issues and concerns which aimed is to decrease the number of CoVID-19 cases.

Benguet is facing a surge in CoVID-19 confirmed cases and death cases have been increasing. Just last May 7, the Provincial Health Office reported the youngest death case recorded, a three-year-old female from Buguias, Benguet.

The bed capacity for CoVID-19 cases of the Benguet General Hospital (BeGH) has also been full. Further, more CoVID-19 patients with severe and critical symptoms have been admitted.

“The risk-level classifications of the aforementioned provinces shall be without prejudice to their reclassification as may be warranted and the declaration of localized Enhanced Community Quarantine in critical areas,” The resolution stated.

As of DOH Cordillera monitoring last night Baguio city recorded 1,054 active cases while Benguet recorded 529.  (Joseph Manzano, RPN DZBS Baguio OIC | Public Information Office Benguet)
