Bacolod City – La Castellana residents who are no longer allowed to return and reside within the 4-kilometer permanent danger zone of Kanlaon Volcano, may soon have a permanent relocation site.

The provincial government of Negros Occidental, through Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has donated an 8.6 hectare-lot to the municipal government of La Castellana to be used as a permanent relocation site for families displaced by Kanlaon restiveness.

Lacson said it is now the responsibility of the concerned local government unit to develop the relocation site in Barangay Talaptap, La Castellana, with the help of the national government.

The donated property is worth P15.6 million.

Lacson further said that he is giving the leeway for the municipality to decide on the request of the Office of Civil Defense for the establishment of an evacuation center for town residents affected by the restiveness Kanlaon Volcano.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz earlier said that the donated property is near the Talaptap barangay hall and a school, which makes it ideal as a permanent relocation site. (Gilbert Bayoran via tvds photo by tvds)
