Bacolod City – Negros Occidental health workers are getting their third dose or booster shot of the COVID-19 starting today, Provincial Inter Agency Task Force action officer Rayfrando Diaz announced recently.
Diaz said they are now expecting issuance of booster shot guidelines by the Department of Health.
While there is no problem in administering booster shot to the provincial government health workers, with plenty of available vaccines, Diaz said that their main effort directed to those who are unvaccinated.
We are trying to build a herd immunity in the whole community, not only for individuals, he stressed.
Although the third dose is a big help to our medical front liners, Diaz said that “if we will be able to have many people vaccinated, it also protects our health workers, since only a few will go to them.”
In a public advisory released by DOH, it recommended Moderna, Pfizer and Sinovac as booster doses regardless of the brand used in the primary series.
Diaz also said that the nine district hospitals supervised by the provincial government will also be given supplies of vaccines for them also to conduct regular vaccinations, which was already approved by Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson.
During a virtual meeting, Lacson discussed with local chief executives the vaccination roll out, which targets 100,000 Negrenses for vaccination a week, as well as full utilization of vaccines.
As November 15, the Provincial Incident Management Team noted a steady decline in numbers of COVD-19 active cases, which dropped to 970 from its peak of more than 4,400 last month.
