All three electric cooperatives in Negros Occidental have reported lower residential power rates in June compared to the charges last May.

Consumers in the province are served by the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco), Northern Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative (Noneco), and Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative (Noceco).

Based on its latest advisory, Ceneco announced that its June rate is pegged at PHP 10.2716 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), which is lower by PHP 0.9207 from PHP 11.1923 per kWh in May.

It said in its advisory that the rate reduction is mainly due to the decrease in the fixed cost component of the power supply contract with Kepco Salcon Power Corp. (KSPC) and the lower price in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).

Ceneco covers the cities of Bacolod, Bago, Talisay and Silay, and towns of Murcia and Salvador Benedicto.

Meanwhile, Noneco reported a decrease of PHP 0.1831 per kWh – from PHP 10.1698 per kWh in May to only PHP 9.9867 per kWh in June.

Paulino Almedelia, corporate planning manager of Noneco, said on Tuesday the lower power rate is driven by the decrease in generation cost, at PHP 0.2101 per kWh, due to lower WESM price.

Noceco, which serves consumers in southern Negros, announced a PHP0.0105 per kWh decrease in its residential power rate.

This month, it charged PHP 8.5321 per kWh compared to PHP 8.5426 in May.

Noceco general manager Jonas Discaya attributed the reduced rate to the lower value-added tax (VAT) on the generation rate of residential customers at PHP 0.0968 per kWh.

Discaya said the overall electricity rate decreased despite the increase in the generation charge, systems loss, and resumption of the collection of FiT-All or feed-in tariff allowance.

“Noceco’s distribution, supply, and metering charges remain unchanged despite the increase in the overall electricity rate for this month,” he added. (Erwin Nicavera via pna)
