Zamboanga: OLASO LEADS BATANG PINOY DELEGATION

    Mayor Khymer Olaso together with some members of the City Council joins the 241-strong Zamboanga City delegation to the Batang Pinoy National Championships during the opening rites held at the Acharon Sports Complex in barangay Calumpang, General Santos City Saturday, October 25.

    Mayor Olaso and the councilors motored to Gensan from Davao City where they attended a conference on climate resilience, to show support and to boost the morale of the athletes joining the annual grassroots tournament for 17-and-under.

    The mayor encouraged the athletes to do their best and to always uphold sportsmanship and discipline during the competition, stressing that the delegation has the full backing of the Zamboanga City local government.

    With the mayor were Councilors Fred Atilano, Bong Atilano, Joel Esteban, Gian Enriquez, BG Guingona, Dan Vicente, Lit-lit Macrohon, Hanna Nuno, CJ Dalipe, City Sports Director Dr. Cecil Atilano, and the mayor’s spouse Mary Joy Olaso.

    The tournament has drawn over 18,000 athletes representing 188 local government units from major cities and municipalities nationwide. It runs from Oct. 25-31 with a total of 33 gold medals at stake.

    The opening program was graced by Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Juan Victor Remulla, who served as guest of honor. Also in attendance were General Santos City Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Patrick Gregorio, PSC Commissioner Bong Coo, the project director of Batang Pinoy 2025, and Zamboanguena Hidilyn Diaz, the country’s first Olympic gold medalist.
