The City Government under the leadership of Mayor John Dalipe has increased burial assistance to indigents to ₱ 12,000.
This, as the Sangguniang Panlungsod presided by Vice Mayor Josephine Pareja recently approved Ordinance 586 increasing the burial assistance from ₱ 6K to ₱ 12K per indigent beneficiary in the city.
Mayor Dalipe has earlier declared the Ordinance as urgent.
Vice Mayor Pareja Wednesday affixed her signature on the Ordinance for its submission to the Office of the Mayor.
Under Ordinance 586, the City Government will directly pay to the chosen funeral parlor the amount of ₱ 8, 000 for funeral services or for a burial space at the designated burial ground at the Zamboanga City Public Cemetery. The remaining ₱ 4, 000 shall be given to the immediate family of the deceased for burial needs.
For indigents belonging to the Islam faith the ₱ 12,000.00 burial assistance will be given in cash directly to the immediate family.
The Ordinance tasks the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to determine deserving beneficiaries in the grant of assistance.
