More and more people respond to the city’s Plastic for Rice Program, an initiative of Mayor John Dalipe aimed not only to protect the environment but also to provide incentives to people who help in saving Mother Earth.
Facilitated by the OCENR, the second day of the program today, April 22, yielded 2,280 kilos of plastic wastes which were equivalent to a total of 1,400 kilos of rice echanged in the 5 collection points set up in barangays Ayala, Sangali, Guiwan, Tugbungan and Talon-Talon.
Mayor Dalipe personally assisted OCENR personnel in exchanging plastics with rice in barangay Guiwan Saturday morning, and noted people’s enthusiasm in participating in the program.
The Plastic for Rice Program was launched April 15 in line with the observance of Earth Month. It will run for 3 Saturdays – April 15, 22 and 29 from 830am to 3pm. Two (2) kilos of dry plastic wastes are equivalent to a kilo of rice.
The first day of the program last Saturday, April 15 yielded 1,202 kilos of plastic wastes which were exchanged with a total of 551 kilos of rice.
