In a major step toward easing traffic congestion, Mayor Khymer Olaso Tuesday, October 28, discussed the planned construction of a P150-million underpass project beneath the Sta. Cruz Flyover, aimed at improving efficiency and mobility across the city.

The discussion followed Senator Erwin Tulfo’s courtesy visit to Mayor Olaso in City Hall last August 8, 2025, during which the senator committed to provide funding support for the city’s key infrastructure priorities, particularly those addressing traffic congestion and flood control.

Mayor Olaso emphasized that Senator Tulfo has earmarked P150-million for the planned underpass project, which will complement the existing flyover that became operational in May 2025.

According to Olaso, the initiative reflects the strong partnership between the local and national governments in advancing mobility and infrastructure development. He also emphasized the possible augmentation of additional funds from the city government, if necessary, to support the project’s overall development and further improvements.

The local chief executive assured the construction will be carried out in an orderly and peaceful manner, with due consideration for affected residents and establishments. He also reiterated the city’s steadfast commitment to ensure minimal disruption while enhancing the overall traffic flow and accessibility in the area.

Present during the meeting were City Engineer Christopher Navarro, City Human Resource and Management Officer Marinyd Tingcang, Assistant City General Services Officer Rizzamay Basing, and CEO staff. (Arvin Midel) (photo credits: Kathy Wee Sit/ Jen Casido)
