Zamboanga city celebrates the 124th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence


Zamboanga city joins the nation in the celebration of the 124th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence with simple yet fitting ceremonies set at 8am today, Sunday, June 12, at the City Hall grounds.

Mayor Beng Climaco will lead the activity that will kick off with a flag raising ceremony at the Rizal Monument fronting City Hall. She will be joined by the department heads, police and military officials and heads of other government agencies.

Highlight of the celebration will be recognition of some Zamboangueno athletes who participated in the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) and 2 Sinubong residents who responded to a crime incident in their barangay recently.

The City Government is also set to turn over newly-acquired vehicles to the barangays in line with Mayor Beng Climaco’s thrust on security, health and education or SHE program.

Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office-9 in partnership with the City’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) will hold an Independence Day Job Fair dubbed “Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) Fair” in line with the Independence Day celebration at the KCC Mall in Gov. Camins.

Thousands of job openings in the city and other parts of the country and abroad will be offered during the Job Fair.

Also the City Health Office (CHO) together with KCC Mall will operate the vaccination site at the KCC Mall offering first booster doses for pre-pregistered immunocompromised and A1 and A2 priority groups.

Independence Day is a regular holiday in the Philippines which commemorates the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain on June 12, 1898. This year’s celebration is themed: “Kalayaan 2022: Pag-suong sa Hamon Ng Panibagong Bukas (Rise Towards The Challenge Of A New Beginning).
