Very Alarming, Vice Mayor Says Of Covid-19 Cases Upsurge

Bacolod City – “Not alarming, very alarming gid.”

Thus said Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran about the upsurge in coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 in this city.

Familiaran, chairperson of the city’s Inter-Agency Task Force against COVID-19, told Daily Guardian Sunday that an “exponential transmission” of the disease is occurring right now.

As reported on Saturday, this city had the highest number of single day recorded cases at 67.

Familiaran said out of the 67 cases, 42 are in just one purok at Barangay 14.

He said the houses are very close to each other.

As of this writing, Bacolod City has 501 confirmed cases (365 active cases, 116 recoveries, and 10 deaths).

The latest fatality on Friday morning was a Bacolod City government employee who worked at the Libertad Public Market.

Familiaran said the fatality was a 59-year-old market sweeper from Purok San Roque in Barangay Tangub.

The street sweeper massaged a vendor, who had fever and was suffering from body pains.

The 59-year-old was brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City by his co-employees, Familiaran said. (Dolly Yasa, photo by TDG)
