UK eyeing ties with Bacolod

The United Kingdom’s (UK) British Embassy sent a three-member delegation to Bacolod City recently to meet with Mayor Evelio Leonardia to learn more about the city’s investment climate, tourism, and peace and order situation.

British Embassy Manila First Secretary Iain Cox, who is also the head of their Political and Economic Team, said they would like to have a better understanding of Bacolod as a destination for British nationals and businesses.

Senior policy advisor Kurt Cendaña said the meeting is part of the embassy’s regular regional trips to gain better understanding of the social and economic developments outside of Metro Manila, as they advance the United Kingdom’s bilateral cooperation with the Philippines.

Cox and Cendaña were accompanied by Human Rights officer Kristine Borja.

The three embassy officials also discussed their invitation to Bacolodnons to avail of a fully funded scholarship called Chevening.

Chevening is the UK government’s international awards programme aimed at developing future leaders. It offers two types of awards – master’s degree and fellowships.

Joining the mayor in the meeting were City Administrator Em Ang, Supervising and Administrative Officer Federico Guanzon Jr., Acting City Tourism Officer Sandra Ruth Sycip, Acting Public Information Officer Danny Dangcalan, LEIPO (Local Economic and Investment Promotions Officer)-designate Jonah Javier, and secretary Edwina Javier.

The British Embassy officials had also met with key Negros Occidental provincial officials, and civil society organizations. */CITY PIO
