Davao Oriental – Davao Oriental Provincial Governor Nelson Dayanghirang recently turned over nine solar lights to three sitios in PM Sobrecarey, Caraga during which he also inspected the areas for incoming road projects.
Gov. Dayanghirang gave four solar lights to Sitio Palo, three to Sitio Dangilas, and two to Sitio Maglahos.
The solar lights were gratefully received by the residents since they do not have access to electricity.
The governor conducted an inspection of the areas for the planned road project that will connect Sitio Maglahos and Sitio Butay in Barangay Pichon, Caraga.
Currently, these areas are only connected to nearby sitios by treacherous mountain trails.
According to Dayanghirang, the road project will provide ease of transport and therefore, open up new opportunities not only to the three sitios but to other hinterland communities as well.
“With this road project, your products can easily be transported. I really hope that this will pave the way for a more vibrant economic activity, especially for the town of Caraga,” said Governor Dayanghirang.
He added that in line with Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC), the provincial government places priority in reaching out to the Indigenous Peoples Communities in the ancestral domain.
“Our intention is to go to the barangays regardless of the distance and reach out to the people more, we are determined more than ever to help, and just bear in mind always that the government is also ever ready to serve you,” he said.
Punong Barangay Lourdes Basta of Barangay PM Sobrecarey in behalf of the villagers expressed gratitude for the solar lights and the planned road project. She viewed the visit of the Governor as a show of “care for us”.
Keeping the peace and order of the Municipality, the 66th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army vowed to continue to safeguard the area.
“As your partner for peace and development, we will ensure to make this place secure and safe for you. We are happy to be a part of the development team of Davao Oriental,” Lt. Col. Roman Maborang, Battalion, Commander of the 66th Infantry Battalion said.
Gov. Dayanghirang was joined by Vice Governor Niño Uy, Senior Board Member Nelson “JR” Dayanghirang, Provincial Administrator Art Benjie Bulaong, and local officials of Caraga during the visit. (from Neela Duallo, PIO DavOr/ Jan Leuterio, PIA XI/jmda)
