Surigao: Mass wedding of former NPA rebels highlights the Valentine’s celebration in Caraga region

Camp Col Rafael C. Rodriguez, Libertad, Butuan City – Six pairs of former rebels are now united and say “I Do’s” in a church wedding ceremony organized by the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 13 in Butuan City last February 14.

PRO13 Director POLICE BRIGADIER GENERAL ROMEO M CARAMAT, JR disclosed that the pairs, who surrendered to RMFB 13, tied the knots at the Our Lady of Sacred Heart Chapel of Luz Village in Barangay Bayanihan, Butuan City around 9 o’clock in the morning.

He said that the ceremony was sponsored by Governor Dale B Corvera and Congresswoman Maria Angelica Rosedell Amante-Matba which was represented by Hon. Dick Carmona; Mayor Ronnievic C Lagnada was ably represented by Atty. Ernest John Sanchez, City Councilor of Butuan; PCOL LAUDEMER M LAUDE; Ms Joy Laude; Ms Jocelyn Yee; Ms Annalie Arroyo Perales; Ms Ma. Victoria Torrefranca- Trojello; Mr Vincent Tancasis; PLT JUVELYN P NAQUILA; Mr Rodulfo Bulasa; Ms Arcelie Baluarte; Ms Rebecca Palma; Advisory Council of RMFB13, retired COL Efraim Orofel; Engr. Raymundo Calo, President Bando Eagles Club of Butuan City and Mr Zaguetth Cabonce, President of Falcons Guardians Incorporated.

Reverend Father PMAJ LORENZO R RUGA, PRO13 Chaplain, solemnized their marriage while the wedding reception was held at Barangay Bayanihan Covered Court.

PBGEN CARAMAT, JR through PCOL LAUDE, RMFB13 Force Commander, thanked the sponsors and stakeholders of RMFB13 for their generosity that made the event possible.

He also congratulated and sent his best wishes to the newlyweds.

“Today, as they celebrate the union of their love, marks also the creation of their legal family. They must never forget that our family, as the basic unit of our society plays vital roles in the development of our region and our country in general especially in peace and progress,” says PBGEN CARAMAT, JR.

One of the couples said that they cannot marry each other because they were running from the law, but now that they can freely do it with the help of the local government and police force, they are happy and thankful. He too encourages other active NPA members to surrender and avail the benefits they received at the good hands of the government.

Meanwhile, a child of another former rebel who was present during the ceremony also benefitted from the free baptism.

The family and relatives of the former NPA rebels as well as PNP Caraga and civilian stakeholders have witnessed the wedding ceremony.
