In upholding constitutional rights in high-risk incidents and mitigating threats effectively, the police authorities of Surigao City Police Station arrested a suspect charged with alarm and scandal, illegal discharge of firearms, and violation of R.A. No. 10591 yesterday, April 14.
Police Colonel Laudemer M. Laude, Provincial Director, identified the suspect as a 32-year-old male, married, security guard from Barangay Washington, Surigao City.
Around 9:00 p.m. yesterday, the police authorities of Surigao City Police Station received a phone call from a concerned citizen reporting a gunshot heard at Purok-3, Sitio Gayas, Barangay Sabang, Surigao City. After a quick response and verification, the police authorities arrested a suspect charged with alarm and scandal, illegal discharge of firearms, and violation of R.A. No. 10591, the “Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.”
According to the report from the Surigao City police, the suspect and his neighbor were under the influence of intoxicating liquor after a drinking session. Without any apparent reason, the suspect fired a gun in an undetermined direction near his neighbor’s house, alarming adjacent residents.
Confiscated items from the suspect were one unit of NORINCO 9mm caliber firearm with serial number AB03652-17-CN-246, bearing a Firearms License to Own Control Number J-2016-00269-0, an inserted magazine loaded with eight live ammunitions, and one piece of cartridge case of 9mm caliber.
“A responsive and professional police force fosters trust and confidence within the community. SDN PNP promptly addresses concerns and prioritizes safety to prevent crimes in the province. The reckless discharge of firearms demonstrates a disregard for public safety and constitutes reckless endangerment. We will not tolerate those who are engaged in such behavior may face additional charges related to endangering others or property,” PD Laude said.
The arrested suspect and confiscated firearm are now under the custody of Surigao City Police Station for proper disposition. (Mark James Lisondra)
