Davao del Norte – The Municipal Government of Santo Tomas cautions the public of CPP-NDF-NPA impostors extorting money from individuals in yet another move to scam people as Yuletide season draws near.
The Santo Tomas LGU received reports from several individuals that they have received calls or text messages from extortionists using different mobile numbers (09532202854 and 09533192730) who are out to deceive the good people of Santo Tomas.
These extortionists threatened the life and properties of their victims—a clear modus operandi in an apparent move to extort money from their victims in exchange for the latter’s safety.
Desperate times call for desperate measures, they say. And to resort in this despicable manner is nothing but a pure act of criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.
We therefore ask the public not to succumb to the demands and pressures of these impostors who, upon verification with our intelligence assets, do not have the capacity to mount such threat as opposed to the “power and influence” they project to mislead the public.
We already alerted the law enforcement authorities about this incident to ensure that these impostors will be put behind bars.
The Santo Tomas LGU had earlier warned the public of similar extortion/scam incidents with impostors using the name of Santo Tomas Mayor Ernesto Evangelista.
