Police Undercover Agents Nab Businessman For Selling Liquor Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

Davao City –  Police Station 3 Operatives arrested a 37 year-old businessman for selling intoxicating liquor despite the city government’s order totally banning liquor sales in Davao, said PMaj. Sean C. Logronio, PS3 Station Commander.

At around 1:43 PM, November 14, team led by PLt. Cesar Aaron V Robles, conducted buy bust operation in J. Adams Street corner Madison Street, Samantha Homes Subdivision, Matina Pangi, Davao City, that resulted to the apprehension of Robert John Veneracion Sumera alias Arjay, 37 years old and a resident of GSIS Subdivision, Matina Crossing, Davao City.

The operation stemmed-up after a citizen tipped-off of his illegal transactions despite the prohibition of the sale of liquor.

Seized pieces of evidence were the following:

Three (3) cases containing 24 pcs. 330ml San Miguel Light Beer;  three (3) cases of 1liter Red Horse Beer; One box containing 4 bottles of Captain Morgan; one (1) bottle of Jose Cuervo 1liter; his driven Suzuki w/def Top load ; and cash money amounting to ₱ 17,000.

On October 29, the City Government of Davao issued an Executive Order No. 59 which states that effective November 2 to December 31 of this year, a 24-hour liquor ban will be imposed in the city.

According to PMaj. Logronio, Police Station 3 is strictly enforcing a liquor ban that prohibits the sale and consumption of alcohol during the implementation of community quarantine against COVID-19.

“You must know that selling, buying and drinking alcohol in public during this time while it’s declared to be banned is a criminal offense. Tiis tiis po muna. We have to take care of our health and boost our immune system to protect ourselves against this deadly virus,” PMaj. Logronio stated.

Sumera will now be facing charges for  Violation of RA 11332 in Relation to Executive Order No. 59 (Liquor Ban). (OIC Michael Manguhig, RPN DXKT Davao)
