Police Bust 102 Illegal Gambling Acts While On Enhanced And General Community Quarantine In Region 12

Police Regional Office 12 – Despite the increased anxiety for people around the world brought by COVID-19, 102 illegal gambling activities were seized in Region 12 for April 16-May 15, 2020.

Police apprehended 35 activities in Cotabato, 12 in Sultan Kudarat, 18 in South Cotabato, 17 in Sarangani and 20 in General Santos City.

Tong-its tops the highest number of illegal gambling activities with a total of 51, followed by Piat-piat (10), Illegal Cockfighting (7), Mahjong (6), Billiard (3), Drag Race (3), Cara y Cruz (3), Pusoy Dos (2), Lucky Nine (1), Cha-Kit-Cha (7), Poker (1) Taksi (1), Bingo (1) and others (12).

PRO 12 Regional Director, PBGEN ALFRED S CORPUS rest assured the public that police operations against illegal gambling and other criminalities will continue strengthening to curb these unnecessary and life-hazarding activities.

“People should treat this pandemic dead serious. Engaging in illegal activities senselessly putting lives at risk in a time when our country is doing everything to slow the spread of the virus and safeguard the health and well-being of the public. I just hope that this money you spent is not coming from the SAP (Social Amelioration Program) given by the government because these cash aids are supposed to sustain your basic needs and not for illegal vices.” the PRO 12 RD added.
