Personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Negros Occidental remain free from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) since March 2020, despite being at the frontline of the pandemic.

Commander Jansen Benjamin, PCG-Negros Occidental head, said yesterday that the 146 personnel of the provincial station here are doing good amid threats from the virus.

Benjamin said some of these personnel were assisted repatriation trips of locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) since the start of the community quarantine status in March, making them vulnerable to possible exposure to the virus.

15 officers were assigned to Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. port, 10 to Escalante City, 10 to Sagay City, and another 15 to Cadiz City.

Benjamin said they were dispatched to help in the air and sea repatriations of returning Negrenses.

He said even their bus driver assigned to transport returning Negrenses from the port to quarantine facilities was free from the virus.

“Kaluy-an lang man wala gid sang may na ano sa amon halin pagsugod. Kabay pa wala lang may matabo,” he said. (Glazyl Masculino via The Daily Guardian (TDG), photo by TDG)
