Pagadian: Interception of Suspected Smuggled/ Without Tax Stamps Cigarettes

Pagadian City – PNP personnel of Pagadian City Police Station and 1st Zamboanga Del Sur Provincial Mobile Force Company while manning the checkpoint at Community Police Assistance Center (COMPAC), Tiguma Checkpoint, Pagadian City flagged down an Isuzu Bonggo color red with plate number attached JAG5665 driven by

JERWIN GLENOGO AVILA, 40 y/o (DOB: February 23, 1981), male, married, Filipino and a resident of Purok Fisherville, Lumbia, Pagadian City, Zamboanga Del Sur.

Upon verification, there were assorted boxes of cigarettes to wit; Fort (Ten (10) boxes), Astro (Five (5) boxes), Nelson (Five (5) boxes), San Marino (Two (2) boxes), Canon (One (1) box) and Berlin (One (1) box) with an estimated market value of Three Hundred Sixty Thousand (Php 360, 000.00) Pesos.

When the driver was asked of the pertinent documents pertaining to the transported cigarettes, the driver failed to present. Thus, he was arrested for violation of R.A 8424, handcuffed and was informed of his Basic Constitutional Rights provided under “Miranda Doctrine”.

Further, personnel from the Bureau of Customs (BOC) were also informed of the confiscation. The confiscated evidence, vehicle and the suspect was brought to Pagadian City Police Station for appropriate filing of case.
