Davao City:   All 76 OFWs from Davao Region who arrived today (May 26) at Macabalas Port in Cagayan de Oro City onboard MV St. Therese of the Child Jesus are now on their way to Davao City.

Also included in the list are the OFWs who arrived from Manila and Cebu onboard MV St. Francis Xavier last May 24, 2020.

The OWWA Region XI has arranged a shuttle for them from CDO to Davao City. Their respective local government units are expected to ferry them from Davao City going to their final point of destination.

In the list, 45 of the OFWs are residents of Davao City; 17 are from Davao del Norte; 5 are from Davao de Oro; 4 are from Davao del Sur; 2 are from Davao Occidental; and also 2 are from Davao Oriental.

In last night’s Public Address of President Rodrigo Roa-Duterte, he said he ordered for the use of all government transportation assets in accepting and delivering the OFWs to their homes, to their families.

He further ordered LGUs to open the gates to allow OFWs to enter. Sequestration should dovetail the national policy.

“ You are not allowed to unilaterally declare the stoppages of the ingress and egress of people. If you want to do it, ask permission from the task force,” the President said.

Meanwhile, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte bared in her radio program yesterday over the Davao City Disaster Radio that more than 1,000 stranded Dabawenyos are now home.

“The city government of Davao has helped 1,045 residents of Davao Region stranded in various parts of the country to return home since April 29, including those flown in by sweeper and mercy flights”, Mayor Duterte said. (PIA XI/Frances Mae Macapagat)
