Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong suspends non-essential travel in the city regardless of place of origin for seven days starting today as a preemptive response against Delta variant.

“Our responses are in place we have been busy maximizing our city’s health care capacity and ensuring the availability of medical supplies and COVID-19 treatment medicine as a parallel action to ongoing vaccination operations for our constituents,” the advisory of the Mayor on Friday read.

The local chief executive said that the all non-essential travels in Baguio shall have to be temporarily suspended while the city response units and partners in private sectors can implement those protection measures that have planned against the Delta variant.

Baguio will accept only travelers with indispensable purposes and a travel ban on tourists coming from Metro Manila and other places is now in effect.

“I appeal for patients and cooperation from the public for this sudden change in policy as this is appropriate action that is necessary for the situation at hand.” Magalong said in his advisory.

He also appealed to Baguio residents to limit their travels in and out of the city and always practice minimum public health protocols when travel outside is absolutely necessary.

The tentative travel ban advisory may be changed, amended, or revoked pursuant to subsequent issuances of the IATF-EID or the COVID-19 IATF.
