Sea travel to and from Zamboanga and Basilan will be more fast and convenient with the launching of a new ferry service Wednesday morning, October 23, 2024.
This, as Fast Cat, the Philippine’s first and only catamaran roll-on/ roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferry formally launched its Zamboanga-Basilan route at the local port with the blessing of Fast Cat M11, the ceremonial ribbon-cutting and eventually, the maiden voyage to Basilan.
Mayor John Dalipe through his representative Coun. Jerome Santos expressed elation over this new development saying it will further boost economic activity and the tourism industry in both Zamboanga and Basilan.
Fast Cat M11 will have 3 daily trips between Zamboanga and Basilan. It can go to a top speed of 19 knots and can carry up to 300 passengers, 40 cars and more or less 7 trucks and buses.
Travel time from Zamboanga to Basilan is one hour and 30 minutes. The Fast Cast leaves Zamboanga City at 6am, 10:30am and 3:30pm and leaves Basilan at 8:30am, 1pm and 5:30pm. Fare is P240 for economy, P252 for premium economy and P280 for business class. As an opening incentive, the company is providing 50% off for passengers and rolling cargoes from Oct. 23 to 25.
Top executives of Fast Cat and officials from the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Ports Authority and other concerned agencies were present during the Fast Cat Zamboanga-Basilan route opening and maiden voyage.
